The HOW

Approaching the poetry for the first time: stylistic details. Style connects to meaning, providing evidence for the interpretation.

Moving from detail to the big picture: what can you see by standing back from the work.  Note contrasts.

Thurs

12/02

Transfer understandings to a new work: "Promises Like Pie-Crust" by Christina Rossetti.

Annotate, paraphrase, subject sentence

Annotate "Promises Like Pie-Crust" by Christina Rosetti with an eye toward dramatic situation.  Again, look at TITLE, annotate each stanza for dramatic situation (you do not need to use complete sentences), paraphrase what is literally happening.  Write a subject claim sentence.

Stand back from the work: move from detail to big picture.

Clarify the difference between subject and theme.

Fri

12/03

Now that you know the subject, let's look at the "voice" behind the work.

Speculative Fiction Choice due by start of your period today.  See Schoology for handout and signup form.
